HENRY J. GAULT, M.D.
Dr. Henry J. Gault is a Diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners in both general psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry. He is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a Fellow of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He is an Associate Professor in Clinical Psychiatry at the University Of Illinois College of Medicine and a spokesperson of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Dr. Gault is a past president of the Illinois Council of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and past president and founding member of the Interface Between Education and Psychiatry. Dr. Gault received his B.A. from the University of Michigan and his M.D. from the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He completed his psychiatric residency at the University of Illinois and his Child Fellowship at the Institute for Juvenile Research.
Dr. Gault has been in practice for over thirty years and provides consultation, evaluation, and psychotherapy for adults, adolescents and children. He utilizes individual, family and marital therapy as well as counseling parents in parent management skills. Both psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral techniques are used. Medications are used only when necessary and appropriate to the problems presented and the desire of the patient. Dr. Gault believes in looking at the whole person and addressing issues that can increase happiness and improve quality of life. He believes in a comprehensive eclectic approach to emotional and behavioral issues and has extensive experience with a wide variety of emotional disorders.
His philosophy is built upon patient and physician building a warm, trusting relationship in which to work on issues in a safe environment that promotes growth and understanding.
Dr. Gault’s special area of interest is school related problems and community consultation. He has worked as a consultant to the Deerfield, Highland Park, Northbrook and Lake Forest school systems, the Special Education District of Lake County, Jewish Children’s Bureau as well as the Northbrook and Lake Forest Police Departments.
